Biogas Overview
What is Biogas?
Biogas is a mixture of Methane & Carbon Dioxide, produced by the anaerobic digestion of organic waste matter,
used as fuel. Biogas is a source of Renewable Energy.
What is Anaerobic Digestion (AD)?
AD is the natural break down of organic materials into methane & carbon dioxide gas & fertiliser. This takes place naturally, or
in an anaerobic digester. Storage tanks of various sizes & shapes hold the waste material to allow for bacteria
to breakdown the waste and produce Biogas.
Why Biogas?
Biogas is a source of green renewable energy
Biogas is the main by-product of anaerobic digestion
Biogas is easily converted into electricity in a CHP unit
Biogas may be cleaned and injected into the national gas grid as a replacement for
natural gas or compressed for use as a vehicle fuel
Biogas will provide a significant percentage of Britain's gas, easing the problem of
energy security and also reducing the fossil fuel content of the gas and electricity grid
